You may have noted that I've updated the forum banner to display a rotating set of cake pics by members. Fancy, hmmm?

So far I've got just 7 pics in that folder, which I selected pretty much at random based on one main criteria: orientation. But I'd like to put out an invite to you fine designers to submit more cake pics for that spot. Seven pics is not going to be quite enough...

As you can see, the banner space at top is not very tall and the picture on the left is "landscape" as opposed to "portrait" orientation. Meaning, simply, it's wide as opposed to tall. Which tends to be the opposite of most cake pics we have in the Musée.

I had a difficult time locating pictures of cakes taken in the landscape orientation as cakes by nature tend to be taller things, especially wedding cakes. I was finding plenty of nice cake pictures but they were too tight on the cake (no room to edit) or maybe too tall or too dark or had a watermark across it... Now I assume a lot of you fine folk have original cake pictures that you've then edited and cropped to 'zoom in' on the cake. So what I'm doing is calling for submissions from members for cake pictures that will fit the wider space seen above.

Preferably, the background will be lighter and not too busy, and have plenty of width and "elbow room" all around the cake that I can do a little cropping to fit the exact dimensions needed without cutting into the cake itself. Close-ups of details are also fine if they can fit these same requirements.

Additionally, the image should not be watermarked (yet) and should not be of a commercial nature, such as copyrighted characters or company logos.

Tthis is decidedly not aimed at PROS only; "home" or hobby cakes are fine too. Wedding, birthday, "theme" cakes... all are good. Picture composition, good lighting and of course interesting design are what's important.

Regarding picture size: I'll do the cropping and reducing so just submit your photo as a normal attachment to this post. Or you can me and attach your pic(s) there.

So if you have a couple of shots of cakes or cake details you'd fancy submitting (and get a little fame from your pic and username showing at the top), please do so here. I'll go through the submissions and pick another 5 or so images every few weeks and work up some new graphics. You can submit one cake, a few different shots of the same cake or even a few different cakes, but until we have built up a large collection (20? 30?), I'll make just one image per member.

So look through you cake photos and submit a couple of shots of your best and you could well see your cake randomly pop up when you go through the forum!

So ...since I,m useless at this stuff...if you've looked through and found one of mine,it's safe to say that probably the others aren't the correct format(Cause they're pretty much all there......already)?

Heheh... no, it means I got lazy and stopped looking past page 3 of the Musée, is all. That's not even 10% of all the threads!

So if you have any others, do submit, I just went with the first ones I ran across. You'll have easier access to all your cake pictures on hand than I do!

That's simple.

Shape: horizontal
Size of cake in pic: Medium
Visual space: plenty of it top, sides and bottom around cake.

As I noted, this may not be the more obvious sort of shots you'd take, you'll likely zoom in closer to the cake to fill the frame, aside from much more likely shooting it portrait style. This is also MORE likely to be what you finish with if you do any editing which is why you'll have better luck finding wider shots in your "raw" stuff.

But this isn't life-or-death stuff, just fun side stuff to play with on the site. If you happen to run across a nice, well lit photo that suits, shoot it over.

I'm guessing copyright is no good - but I submitted it anyway... I've got a couple more but the files are too big, and I lost photoshop in the crash and haven't been able to reinstall it If I can get them resized I'll add them too!

Hey, thanks for submitting your pics. I've added the middle one, the cookie monster is copyrighted so can't use and the text on the ball is too hard to read when made very small. But the white flowers work right nice!
